Minister of State Alan Dillon has welcomed confirmation that the replacement of dialysis machines at Mayo University Hospital’s Renal Dialysis Unit is progressing under a national programme, following recent engagement with Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill and the Department of Health.
Minister Dillon said: “I am pleased to confirm that Mayo University Hospital is part of the national dialysis machine replacement programme. This is a critical investment in patient care for the region, ensuring that those who rely on dialysis services in Mayo have access to modern, reliable equipment.”
The Department of Health has confirmed that: the initial tender process for new dialysis machines was paused during the Covid-19 pandemic. A tender was successfully awarded in May 2025, and a Service Level Agreement (SLA) was signed by Mayo University Hospital in July 2025. A national replacement programme is now being rolled out, with implementation at Mayo University Hospital scheduled for early 2026.
Minister Dillon added, “This upgrade will make a real difference to patients and families in Mayo who depend on dialysis treatment. I will continue to work closely with the Department of Health and the HSE to ensure this timeline is delivered and that Mayo University Hospital receives the resources it needs.”
The national programme represents a significant step forward in improving renal care across Ireland, with Mayo University Hospital set to benefit from this investment in early 2026.
