Minister Dillon welcomes funding for three Mayo projects under the Ireland Against Racism Fund

Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD has welcomed funding for three Mayo based projects under the Ireland Against Racism Fund 2025. The fund is a key part of the National Action Plan Against Racism (NAPAR) and enables NGOs and community organisations to deliver initiatives that combat racism, promote equality, and strengthen community cohesion.

Welcoming the announcement, Minister Dillon highlighted the impact for Mayo, where three projects will directly benefit:

  • Community Radio Castlebar – “Amplify: Giving Voice Against Racism” (€9,455) This project will use community radio as a platform to share stories, raise awareness, and empower voices against racism. By engaging listeners across Mayo, it will foster dialogue, challenge stereotypes, and promote inclusivity in everyday community life.
  • Ionad Ealaíona Iorras Teo – “Through Our Eyes” (€9,900) A creative arts initiative based in Erris, this project will showcase the lived experiences of diverse communities through exhibitions and workshops. It will encourage intercultural understanding, celebrate diversity, and strengthen local cohesion by bringing people together through art.
  • The Irish Traveller Movement – “The Yellow Flag Programme” (€100,000) Delivered across multiple counties including Mayo, this nationally recognised programme works with schools to promote inclusion, respect, and diversity. By embedding anti-racism education and intercultural awareness into school life, the Yellow Flag Programme empowers young people to challenge prejudice and build a culture of equality from the ground up.

Minister Dillon said: “I am delighted to see Mayo organisations among those receiving support under the fund. These projects will make a real difference in our communities, whether through the power of local radio amplifying voices against discrimination, creative arts initiatives that build empathy and understanding, or the Yellow Flag Programme which equips our schools to lead the way in promoting equality.”

Minister Dillon concluded: “I commend Community Radio Castlebar, Ionad Ealaíona Iorras Teo, and the Irish Traveller Movement for their leadership, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of their work in Mayo.”
