Mayo students, Georgina Padden and Cadhla O’Grady, were presented with scholarship awards by Dublin City University on Wednesday, November 19.
Georgina, a former student of Saint Brendan’s College, Belmullet, is currently studying education at DCU and was awarded the Frank Durcan Memorial Scholarship.
The award was established in 2008 and provides scholarship support for Access students from Frank Durkan’s native County Mayo.
Cadhla, a former student of St Joseph's Community College, Charlestown, and a Bachelor of Education student at DCU, was awarded The Aidan P McDonnell Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship was established by the telecommunications company Vilicom Ltd in honour of Aidan McDonnell from Ballina, who passed in June 2006. This scholarship provides an annual scholarship on the DCU Access Scholarship programme for a student from Mayo.

Speaking at the presentation event, Deirdre Hannigan, Chair of DCU Educational Trust, said
“This event is an opportunity to look back on the remarkable lives of those we remember through our memorial scholarships and acknowledge the impact we can achieve when our friends, supporters and students come together.
“By creating opportunities for impactful doctoral research and supporting scholarships that enable talented students to overcome barriers, our supporters are enabling young people to reach their potential and make a real impact on society.”
