A long and ongoing campaign to provide a bus shelter in Foxford, Mayo, has now become what local resident Oliver Murphy is considering “an urgent need.” While Oliver says it is not exactly a new issue, Foxford’s ever-growing population requires bus shelters more than ever.
“In recent times, there has been a rollout of bus shelters across the country. Many villages have had them installed, so it’s great to see progress. Foxford, however, has not been a part of that rollout."
Oliver also commented on how he, firsthand, has seen the effects of the lack of shelter.
“Students on a Sunday travelling back to colleges and universities have been seen standing at bus stops, getting drenched.”
The Foxford resident also added that the council’s Strategic Policy Committee mentioned a number of rollouts upcoming.
“One of the mentioned rollouts is additional bus shelters. We are appealing to Mayo County Council and other representatives to consider Foxford in the next rollout,” he added.
