Keem Bay on Achill Island was included alongside Shore Road, Belmullet; Carrowmore Beach, Louisburgh, and Dugort Beach, Achill.

Popular Mayo beauty spot Keem Bay has been added to the list of four swimming spots placed under a 'Do Not Swim' notice by Mayo County Council.

The decision to add the Achill spot to the list of beaches under notice was made in the wake of heavy rainfall in the area.

Water sampling works indicated that the water did not meet certain criteria, leading samplers to issue the warning.

A lot of beaches in the county have suffered issues due to rainfall in the midst of the Met Éireann Status Yellow Rainfall warning, which came into effect yesterday (Wednesday, August 27) at 6pm.

Also included in the closure are Dugort Beach, also on Achill Island, Carrowmore Beach in Louisburgh, and Shore Road in Belmullet.

Anyone waiting for updates is advised to keep an eye on all Mayo County Council official channels, as well as mayo.ie.
