Mayo lifeboats were called into action yesterday (Tuesday, August 5), as they responded to reports of a boat taking on water in a local lake.

At approximately 3.50pm, the Corrib/Mask Search and Rescue team received the word that a vessel close to Inchagoill Island, in Lough Corrib, was taking on water and was in need of immediate assistance.

The team launched their vessels from Lisloughrey Pier in Cong and swiftly located the struggling boat.

Everyone aboard was taken back to Lisloughrey Pier, before the crew returned to around Inchagoill Island to tow the boat back to shore.

In a statement on social media, Corrib Mask Search and Rescue thanked their volunteers for their rapid response to the situation, while also stressing the importance of establishing contact with the emergency services on 999.

You can watch a short video of the crew returning to base after the callout.
