Two Mayo events have received funding from the government.
Aras Inis Gluiare, a four day literacy festival in Belmullet has been allocated €5,000.
And €4,880 go to Circus 250Production. This is an outdoor summer school on Achill Island for local and visiting children and young people - the only live performance school on the island or in the area.
“To everyone involved, I offer my sincere congratulations and thanks for all the hard work and effort in bringing these fun events to our communities," said Dara Calleary (Fianna Fáil), Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht: "These small festivals drive community spirit and assist greatly in the offering of activities during the tourist season. I am very pleased that these are being recognised and awarded with vital funding,” he said.
Minister of State, Alan Dillon (Fine Gael), added: “The festival in Belmullet will celebrate writers and readers of all ages through workshops, talks, performances and panel events. It aims to encourage engagement in literature, the Irish language and creativity across generations, from school visits to keynote talks with renowned authors."
