Sharp rise in ‘Trolley Watch’ numbers at Mayo University Hospital

Mayo University Hospital has seen a significant hike in those waiting on beds, according to the latest batch of INMO ‘Trolley Watch’ figures.

Based on the figures from today, Monday, June 9, the hospital in Castlebar sits at third in the current standings, trailing only University Hospital Limerick and University Hospital Galway.

The figures waiting on trollies in the hospital’s Emergency Department have more than doubled since Friday, June 6. At the start of the weekend, the tally stood at seven. Today, it has jumped by ten to 17 patients.

Numbers for those elsewhere in the hospital on trollies have also seen a similar increase, growing from 13 to 17, representing a hike of four people.

Overall, the capacity has gone up by 14 in the last three days, from 20 to 34, meaning the hospital has gone from seventh to third in the charts.

Mayo University Hospital has bucked the national trend with this hike on last Friday’s figures. On Friday, 419 patients were waiting for beds across Ireland. Today, the number has decreased by 11 to 408.
