Two Mayo beaches feature on travel blogger’s top ten list

Two Mayo beaches have been included in a list of the top ten beaches in the country.

The list, compiled by Irish travel blogger Tara Povey for RTÉ, highlights some of the most stunning landscapes the Irish coastline has to offer. In the ‘top ten’, Ms Povey includes Silver Strand at number two and Keem Bay in eighth place.

She described Keem Bay as being ‘internationally acclaimed for good reason’.

“It wouldn’t be an Irish beach list without Keem,” she wrote.

“This beach feels like a slice of paradise.”

Ms Povey holds the tranquil Silver Strand in even higher regard.

“This secluded beach at the mouth of Killary Fjord is absolutely stunning, surrounded by hills and rolling sand dunes,” Ms Povey stated.

“The road to get there is a bit rough and there are no on-site facilities, but it is utterly worth a visit. The last time I was there I saw a grand total of two people, it felt like I’d travelled to the end of the world.”
