Epilepsy Ireland have issued an appeal for the people of Mayo to take part in their new 24-hour squat challenge to raise funds for their services across the county and beyond.
The challenge has been launched to coincide with their biggest fundraising day of the year – Purple Day, which takes place on Wednesday, March 26.
Participants are challenged to complete at least 24 squats per day from Monday, March 24 to Friday, March 28, in recognition of the estimated 1,490 people who live with epilepsy in Mayo, 24 hours a day. Participants of all levels of fitness are welcome, you can set your own target and do a sumo squat or chair squat to suit your ability.
Speaking about the new challenge for Purple Day, Epilepsy Ireland Fundraising and Development Manager, Cian Dikker, said, “The 24-Hour Squat Challenge is a fantastic way for people to get involved, challenge themselves, and show their support for those living with epilepsy. Every squat and every donation will help to continue the work of our Community Resource Officer team across Ireland and ensure that Epilepsy Ireland can continue to invest in vital epilepsy research projects. Alongside this, every conversation about epilepsy sparked by this challenge helps to create a more informed and supportive society.

"We encourage everyone—whether you have a personal connection to epilepsy or simply want to support a great cause—to take part. The challenge is fun, inclusive, and a great way to get moving while making a difference. We can’t wait to see people across Ireland joining the challenge to raise vital funds," he concluded.
