The sum of €280 will be given to 80 families in the county, with 4,400 parents across the country receiving the grant.
For Fine Gael TD for Mayo Kiera Keogh, the grant represents a welcome addition to new parents’ coffers at an expensive time for them.
"The birth of a baby is one of the happiest occasions in a family's life, but it also comes with many expenses,” she stated. “This grant is an important step in ensuring that parents have the financial support they need at a crucial time.

“Families in Mayo, like those across the country, face significant costs when welcoming a new baby, and this payment will help ease some of that burden."
The grant is anticipated to cost the government €15 million per year, with 54,000 children projected to be born in 2025.
