Mayo’s ETB is set to receive a major windfall as it was listed alongside Leitrim and Sligo ETB to be included in the ‘Green Devolved Capital Grant’ funding.

The funding, which was announced by Minister for State Alan Dillon, will be seen as a huge boost to the coffers of the further education and training groups.

A total of €507,500 has been allocated to help make improvements to their energy usage on site, and will be spread across the ‘FET’ sector in Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim.

According to Minister Dillon, this sort of investment was imperative to meeting sustainability targets and reducing the carbon footprint.

These goals include the ambitious target of more than halving Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

“The climate crisis isn’t something we can tackle alone, it requires all of us to play our part,” he stated.

“That’s why this funding is such a game-changer. It gives Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB the resources to make real, impactful changes that will benefit not just their facilities but the entire community.”

The Minister followed this by outlying his hopes that other groups will be able to follow suit.

“By empowering the ETB with this grant, we’re ensuring that they can lead the charge in making their buildings more sustainable and reducing their carbon footprint.”
