MAYO County Council have given permission for a brand new music festival to take place in Castlebar this August.
Well-known AC/DC and Queen tribute acts IE/DC and Qween have been provisionally booked for the free event, which has been provisional named the ‘End Of Summer Music Fest’. The festival will also feature a mix of new and established local talent.
The voluntary group behind the festival say they aim to host ‘a new and unique music festival that pays homage to past events in Castlebar, such as The Blues Festival, The Song Contest, and The Occasion at the Castle’.
Antoinette Starken, Chairperson of the festival’s organising committee, told The Mayo News that the county council have given the go-ahead for the event to run at Hoban Street Car Park over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Castlebar hosted various music festivals over the years which drew thousands to the county town.
Those organising the upcoming musical festival aim to ‘create a memorable event fostering community engagement and cultural enrichment’ that will appeal to local residents, music enthusiasts families and businesses.
The first day of the festival will see local acts perform in local pubs in the Castlebar area. The following day, the Sunday, will feature the headliners and selected local acts performing at an open-air concert.
Audience votes will determine which acts perform alongside the headliners on Sunday.
As well as live music, the festival hopes to include local food vendors and artisanal craft stalls to enhance the experience.
“The proposed free music festival offers an exciting opportunity to unite the community, celebrate local talent, and support businesses in Castlebar,” the festival organising committee said in a statement.
“Through strategic marketing, diverse revenue streams, and meticulous planning, we aim to create a sustainable and culturally enriching event that will become a cherished tradition for years to come.”
A marketing campaign to advertise the festival will commence shortly across all social media platforms, radio and newspapers.
