Council working to make Mayo roads safe after Storm Eowyn

All Mayo road users are being urged to exercise extreme caution

Council working to make Mayo roads safe after Storm Eowyn

WIDESPREAD DAMAGE Fallen trees, such as this one in Castlebar, have created hazards on roads throughout the county.

Storm Eowyn may have blown over, but the after-effects of this violent weather event are still being felt around Co Mayo.

Thousands of homes and businesses remain without electricity, mobile phone coverage is severely compromised throughout the county, and many roads are still impassible or dangerous.

Mayo County Council crews are working hard to clear trees and debris from roads in all areas. However, it will take time for all routes to be cleared, with work now being affected by nightfall.

Gritting trucks will be out this evening on all routes, where practical, the Council said.

Members of the pubic are being asked to continue exercising extreme caution at this time.
