Sadness in Belmullet as man who died in accident in New Zealand to be laid to rest

A Belmullet native who died in a tragic accident in New Zealand is to be laid to rest. 

Peadar Togher of Tirrane, Clogher, Belmullet, drowned while bathing in Waikato River near Hamilton City’s Pukete Bridge in New Zealand earlier this month.

The 27-year-old, who worked as a multimedia designer, was holidaying in New Zealand visiting his brother at the time of the accident, which occurred on December 17. His body was discovered following a search which lasted for several days. 

Local councillor Gerry Coyle said there had been ‘great sadness’ in the area since his passing. 

Peadar Togher will repose at McDonnell’s Funeral Home, Belmullet on Monday evening from four o’clock until 6 o’clock. Funeral will arrive at St Brendan’s Church, Tirrane on Wednesday afternoon for Funeral Mass at 1 o’clock followed by burial in Emlybeg Cemetery.
