COMMUNITY groups in south Mayo are encouraged to apply for a credit union funding scheme where successful applicants can receive up to €20,000.

St Colman’s Credit Union has approved a Community Support Fund of €136,000, which aims to support various projects in the south Mayo area.

The nature of the entity, event or project must be consistent with the ethos and values of the credit union movement.

Funding will be prioritised for specific and achievable objectives. Applicants must be located within the Credit Union’s Common Bond area and must be used only for the purpose(s) specified in the application.

Any charity, sporting group, education institution, voluntary organisation, club, society or similar entity for any worthwhile purpose can apply.

Several such groups received funding from the scheme in its first year. These included; Ballinrobe Rugby Football Club, which received funding to purchase a Rhino scrum machine; Irishtown NS, which received funding for a prefab sensory room, and Croí, which received funding to carry out heart checks in the area.

St Colman’s Credit Union are currently reviewing their latest tranche of applications and is looking forward to granting further funding towards initiatives and projects over the coming months.

“The Credit Union continually seeks to positively impact lives right across the common bond,” said Norrie Walsh, Chair of the St Colman’s Credit Union Board of Directors.

“There are many organisations and volunteers doing incredible work and this community fund will help realise a number of projects that would otherwise appear as unachievable. We are delighted to be able to assist to many diverse organistions.”
