THE Grow Remote Westport chapter will host a gathering for remote and hybrid workers on Saturday, November 30 at The Creel Restaurant in Westport, beginning at 11am. Grow Remote Westport is part of a wider network of more than 80 volunteer-led chapters across Ireland, focused on organising a range of events for remote and hybrid workers in their local communities.
Grow Remote aims to solve the challenges of remote work to unlock social, economic, and environmental change for individuals, employers, and local communities. As remote and hybrid working become more mainstream, it has created new job opportunities for people living in County Mayo. The Westport event aims to bring remote and hybrid workers together, raise awareness of local opportunities, and strengthen the professional network within the area. By connecting remote workers, employers, and advocates, Grow Remote helps people find remote roles, equips them with tools for success, and supports employers who offer flexible job opportunities that enhance rural communities.
Local leaders of the Westport chapter, Padraic Wade and Laura del Rosal, shared their thoughts about this event:
Padraic noted: “We’re excited to be running our Grow Remote meetup at The Creel. Remote working has become an important part of many people’s lives in Westport and the surrounding areas. This has allowed people to work and shop locally, supporting the local community. We welcome anyone working remotely for a chance to meet new people and socialise in a friendly atmosphere.”
Laura added: “The most recent CSO data shows that about 1,000 people in and around Westport work remotely or in a hybrid model, highlighting just how important this way of working has become over the last few years. While some companies are bringing employees back on-site full-time, others continue to see the clear benefits of remote work, allowing people to stay local while taking on jobs that once required a move to larger cities. This gathering is the first of what we hope will be regular meetups – a chance for remote and hybrid workers in Westport and the surrounding areas, as well as anyone interested in remote work, to connect and discuss how we can strengthen our remote work community here.”
