THREE Mayo farmers and a Mayo-based agri-tech business have been honoured at the recent FBD Better Farming Awards.

Kevin Moran, David Dolan and Sinéad Moran were among the 20 award-winners honoured at the ceremony, which was attended by over 200 people at The Heritage Hotel, Killenard, Co Laois.

Mr Moran from Claremorris won the Agri Insider Young Researcher of the Year award for his report highlighting the difficulty young farmers in Ireland face in accessing affordable finance, especially those without land or guarantors.

Garrymore native David Dolan won the Germinal Climate Smart Pasture Farmer of the Year for embracing emissions-reducing technology and sustainable practices on his farm.

Sinéad Moran of Gleann Bui Farm, Mayo won the Dairygold Biodiversity Farmer of the Year for her work in farming within the natural limits of her farm.

Dolan Industries from Ballyglass won the AgTech Ireland Best Agritech Hardware Product winner for their Intelligent Soil Management System, which was described as ‘a more efficient solution than traditional methods of spreading fertiliser and other farm related nutrients’.

The FBD Better Farming Awards were founded in 2023 to recognize initiatives, research and practices that are helping Irish agriculture meet its economic, social and environmental challenge.
