Haunted house set to spook North Mayo

‘Nightmare on Chruch Street’ in Crossmolina is the perfect spooky activity for teens and adults this Halloween

Haunted house set to spook North Mayo

'Nightmare on Chruch Street' will open next week

A walk-through haunted-house in Mayo will open to the public next week.

Opening in Crossmolina as part of the Haunted Hat Festival, ‘Nightmare on Chruch Street’ is the perfect way to get into the spooky spirit.

Situated in the old fire station, the haunted house is definitely not for children.

With ten themed areas, from the butcher to the funeral, those brave enough to step foot in the house are sure to be holding their breath for the next scare.

Member of the organisation committee, Robert Padden told The Mayo News, ‘it’s great to see the community get together’ to organise the haunted house.

“[The set-up] was starting at the beginning of September. A lot of different people, about 20 different people, all voluntary, from electricians to carpenters,” he said.

Even the live actors who will be trying to give any viewers the fright of their life are all local volunteers.

“A lot of them are part of the festival group, and then they're met by a lot of extra people as well. I think we've 30 people, because some can't do every night, but about 25 are on every night,” he said.

Reusing many decorations from past events, it’s clear the North Mayo town is used to turning spooky.

“We had a lot [of decorations] from before, and then we, because this is bigger, we had to buy a lot of stuff, and then of course we had to buy a lot of timber and all that.

“Covid stopped us, so we did for Covid, then we had actually a drive-through, you stayed in your car, and then there was a drive-in movie as well that night. We did that for one year, and then we had nothing then last year, and then we just got this premises to do this event this year,” he explained.

The haunted house is recommended for people over the age of 12, with adult supervision advised for 12-15 year olds.

For the little ones, a children’s version of the attraction will run on November 3 from 2-4pm.

The walk-through attraction opens on October 26, 27, 30, and 31, with tickets available now for €15 from Eventbrite.
