Twenty-one new council houses in Kiltimagh will be officially opened by Minister of State Alan Dillon TD
A new social housing development has been officially opened by Minister of State for Housing, Alan Dillon TD.
Located in Cloonkeadagh one minute’s walk from Kiltimagh town, the new development will add 21 houses to Mayo County Council’s social housing stock, including six three-bedroom houses, eight two-bedroom homes, six two-bedroom apartments and one special needs bungalow.
The development was delivered at a cost of €6.5 million under the government’s Housing For All plan - which aims to deliver over 1,000 new social houses in Mayo by the end of 2026. Mayo County Council is on track to deliver over 150 new social houses this year.
“In 2023, more new social homes were built than in over 20 years. It has been a challenging road, but we are returning to the levels of public housing delivery that we need,” Minister Dillon commented ahead of the official opening.
Minister Dillon said that housing commencements in Mayo Mayo have increased by 32 percent in the first eight months of 2024 compared to last year. Housing completions in the county have risen from 371 in 2021 to 523 in 2023.
A review of housing targets is underway and will be completed with revised targets published later in this month. These targets will be informed primarily by research and modelling by the ESRI on population projections and long-run housing demand published during the summer.
