Deputy Michael Ring TD officially opened the newly refurbished Fahy Community Centre in Westport.

The Fahy Community Centre was allocated €300,000 for refurbishments under the Community Centres Investment Fund.

At the opening, Deputy Ring complimented: “This money has been put to excellent use in Fahy. A tremendous amount of renovation works have taken place”.

Deputy Ring stated was ‘delighted’ to be asked to officially open the newly refurbished Fahy Community Centre on Sunday last.

He said: “This fabulous amenity is testament to the hard work and dedication of Tommy Duggan and his very diligent committee with the support of the local community”.

Deputy Ring explained that Community Centres are ‘at the heart of our rural towns and villages’, providing ‘an outlet for young and old for many activities’.

“Volunteers are the backbone of society-I applaud our volunteers and all that they do for our communities. Without volunteers, rural communities would not thrive and projects such as the refurbishment of Fahy Community Centre would not come to fruition.

“It was wonderful to see such a large gathering at the reopening. Community spirit is very much alive and kicking in Fahy and the surrounding hinterland,” continued Deputy Ring.

He wished the community of Fahy ‘every success’ with their newly refurbished community Centre.

“I hope they have many happy times and successful events in it” concluded Deputy Michael Ring.
