Cllr Ger Deere has called for long-term parking areas in Castlebar
A Castlebar-based councillor has called for designated long-term parking areas to be considered for the county town.
Cllr Ger Deere said he has been contacted by a number of business people who have expressed concern about the lack of parking in the town from early morning onwards.
“To their knowledge, they’re all - a majority - people working in the town. So if that is the case it’s totally unacceptable because it’s stopping shoppers coming in,” Cllr Deere told the monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.
The Fine Gael councillor said that designated areas for long-term parking should be considered for Castlebar.
He also called for a report on the number of parking spaces in the Market Square and Castle Street parks, as well as the number of monthly and residents’ parking permits.
David Mellett, Head of Castlebar Municipal District, said the council would review the impact of ten-minute parking bays and loading bays in the town and report back to councillors on the results.
