Castlebar musician, Chris Cresham, has been chosen as a finalist for the national ‘A New Local Hero’ award.

He was selected by Galway Bay FM as part of the Irish Music Month competition, in association with Hot Press Magazine.

This achievement advances him to the national stage, where he follows in the footsteps of last year's winner, Brad Heidi, who also represented Galway Bay FM.

The competition comes with an amazing set of prizes for the winner, including a significant cash prize, €5,000 worth of studio time at Camden Recording Studios, and a single release through Rubyworks, the label behind acclaimed acts such as Hozier and Hudson Taylor.

This year has been a breakthrough one for Mr Cresham, solidifying his position in the Irish music scene with major accomplishments.

Earlier this year, the young artist headlined a sold-out show at Garbo’s in Castlebar, earning praise from prominent artists like JC Stewart and Brad Heidi himself.

Mr Cresham also collaborated with Kingfishr, one of Ireland’s biggest bands, who featured on the acoustic version of his latest release, ‘Catching Fire’.

The track, which dropped on September 13, quickly went viral on TikTok, featuring local talents Aisling Mullarkey, a Ballina-based singer-songwriter, and fellow Castlebar man, Sean Loughran on mandolin.

His next highly anticipated release, ‘Bleed’, a collaboration with Michael Moloney, is set to drop in early 2025.
