Three Mayo towns have received substantial funding for local community projects.

Killala, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, and Charlestown have been awarded a total of €147,375 in funding under the government’s Town Centre First Scheme.

Killala will receive €49,875 to support the planning and development of the Tower Bar site into a multi-faceted community hub.

The Gaeltacht village of Tuar Mhic Éadaigh (Tourmakeady) will receive €50,000 to explore the repurposing of the former Coláiste Connacht into a hub that will include training resource rooms, digital hot-desk capabilities, and office spaces.

Charlestown will benefit from €47,500 to redevelop a building acquired through the Building Acquisition Measure for community use. The grant will cover feasibility studies, design drawings, planning, fire and Disability Access Certificate (DAC) certification, and all necessary compliance documentation.

A total of €2.6 million has been allocated to 53 projects under the Town Centre First Scheme.

Minister of State Alan Dillon Alan Dillon explained that the scheme aims to address issues of dereliction and vacant properties in Mayo.

“It represents another step towards revitalising Mayo’s local communities and fostering growth and development in rural areas,” Minister Dillon said.

Mayo TDs Minister Dara Calleary and Deputy Michael Ring have also welcomed the funding announcement.
