Elaine Heneghan will participate in the charity swim
The charity swim from Roonagh to Clare Island for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and Order of Malta will take place on August 31.
Due to take place last Sunday, August 11, the swim was cancelled due to safety concerns.
One participant, Elaine Heneghan is ‘delighted’ to be preparing for the challenge.
The Breaffy native, now living in Castlebar with her Kiwi partner Rob Holloway, was disappointed with the swim being postponed, but she’s happy that the safety of the participants is to the fore and the new date is set.
“It’s been a lovely experience, meeting new people. The camaraderie of training together and working towards a common goal is really enjoyable,” she said.

The civil engineer is no stranger to activity, having backpacked in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, New Zealand and Australia.
She has hiked in Connemara, Nephin Beag, The Kerry Way, The Western Way and The Dolomites in Italy.
She lived in New Zealand for five years where she met Mr Holloway, who is an ultra marathoner.
Ms Heneghan said she ‘likes challenges, the outdoors, water sports, and travelling’.
She continued: “Not so long ago, I’d have thought that I couldn’t do this 5.3 kilometre swim, but with encouragement and camaraderie and training I have confidence now.”
Her experience with the Castlebar Triathlon Club aided her self belief.
“I’m looking forward to it, and they are two really great causes: Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and Order of Malta Louisburgh,” she added.
The only fear Ms Heneghan said she has is ‘FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).
The event organisers are hoping that supporters will come out on the day to celebrate and contribute in any way.
