County Mayo will be showcased on RTÉ Radio one's, The Country Measure.
Writer and broadcaster Vincent Woods will go on a journey across the county on Sunday, August 11 at 10am on RTÉ Radio 1.
The County Measure is a landmark RTÉ Radio one series exploring the identity and communities of Ireland's 32 counties. The show uncovers the vibrant arts, history, heritage, sport, and diverse communities of county Mayo.
From sports champions on incredible Inishturk, a treasure trove of history in Ballina, to community spirit in blooming Ballyhaunis, Vincent takes a measure of all that ‘the yew county’ has to offer.
Emer Mayock, the celebrated traditional musician from Ross, will unveil brand-new music on The County Measure.
Author Mike McCormack, who grew up in north Mayo, will also feature with an exclusive piece of writing on the programme. "Mayo, this county that often feels like another world – its long, rugged coastline, sea-border and bleak, beautiful bogland, seems to each something of the spirit of resilience you find here. In old communities, new.
“What’s the old song? ‘Home to Mayo’… And there’s some indefinable sense of home almost everywhere you set foot here. You might indeed need five or more measures to do justice to the county – because there’s so much to experience here, so much to discover and celebrate," said Vincent Woods.
The County Measure: Mayo will be broadcast on Sunday, August 11, at 10 AM on RTÉ Radio one.
