Fire which broke out at Mayo hotel brought under control

The Breaffy Woods Hotel is part of the Breaffy House Resort on the outskirts of Castlebar.

A fire which started at a centre housing International Protection Applicants in Breaffy has been brought under control. 

Four people were taken to Mayo University Hosital for smoke inhillaation after a fire, believed to be caused by an electrical fault, started at the Breaffy Woods Hotel.  

The Mayo fire brigade attended the scene this morning (Sunday) and brought the blaze under control after it was temporarily evacutated. 

In a statement, Breaffy House Hotel said: “The fire brigade were quickly on hand to contain the situation and following the containment and a thorough investigation, full service in the facility has been resumed.

“All service in the hotel and restaurant area is not affected and is operating as normal.

“Four people were treated for smoke inhalation [at Mayo University Hospital] but they have now returned to the centre”.

The Breaffy Woods Hotel has accommodated hundreds of International Protection Applicants and Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection from Ukraine in recent years.
