New Local Link Mayo bus routes being used by over 5,000 passengers a month

The service celebrated their accomplishments and unveiled future plans at their Annual General Meeting

NEWLY-launched routes by TFI Local Link Mayo are now being used by over 5,000 passengers a month. 

Local Link Mayo’s AGM has heard that their 454 route from Ballina to Castlebar via Lahardane has recorded over 1,200 monthly passenger journeys, while the 978 route enhancement between Mulranny and Castlebar which was introduced in August 2023, now sees over 3,800 passengers a month. 

These accomplishments, along with securing Community Recognition Funding for the Killala Community Car project, highlight the organisation's dedication to improving rural transport services.

The organisation also secured funding for the Killala community car project under the Community Recognition Fund.TFI Local Link Mayo provides a wide range of transport services including door-to-door bus services that collectand drop off passengers at their homes.

Their community car service also aims to  address rural social exclusion by providing accessible transport options. 

They also fill gaps in public service provision through HSE Transport Services for adults attending day services, vocational training centres, and specialised services. 

Sarah Togher, Manager of TFI Local Link Mayo, expressed her pride in the organisation’s accomplishments and explained that the team has ‘worked tirelessly to ensure that even the most remote communities in Mayo have access to essential transport services’. 

She continued: “We are particularly proud of the new routes and enhancements introduced this year, which have significantly improved mobility for our passengers.”

Declan Turnbull, Chairperson of the Board of TFI Local Link Mayo, described their, achievements as ‘a testament to the dedication of our staff and the invaluable support from the community and our partners’. 

TFI Local Link Mayo plans to continue expanding its services, to meet the evolving needs of rural communities.
