A Westport-based group set up to support new mothers has celebrated its first birthday with a party for mothers and babies who attend the group.
Westport Breastfeeding Support Group provides a safe and informal space for mothers and babies to come together to share advice, experience, socialise and build new friendships in their local area.
The group also has guest speakers once a month, ranging from dieticians, physios, health promotion officers, dental nurses, first aid, psychologists, reflexology and birth trauma speakers.
The group was set up by Claire Larkin, HSE lactation consultant and Geraldine Barrett, public health nurse and lactation consultant and meets at the HSE Westport Primary Care Centre every Monday from 11.00 am - 12.30 pm.
Mayo Lactation Service also provides breastfeeding support groups in Mayo weekly in Westport, Charlestown, Claremorris, Ballina and Castlebar.
