Ballinrobe town hall project takes another step forward

The Valkenburg Hotel in Ballinrobe, which is due to be transformed into a new town hall

BALLINROBE’S new town hall has taken a significant step forward with the appointment of three key professional service providers.

KSN Project Management, Tom McNamara & Sons as Quantity Surveyors (QS), and Taylor McCarney Architects as the single-point design team, are now officially in place to advance the project.

In late 2022, over €4.5 million in funding was awarded to the project, which will see a multi-purpose community facility delivered at the former Valkenburg Hotel in the centre of Ballinrobe.

The programme of works will include the development of a multifunctional theatre space with ancillary entertainment area, catering facilities and accommodation.

It is anticipated that construction will begin in early 2025 following design and specification work, which will take some months before the project goes out to tender.

Ballinrobe Civic, Arts & Amenity Company (BCAAC) and South West Mayo Development Company (SWMDC) have been working together to transform the historic hotel on the town’s Main Street into a multifunctional community facility and hub.

KSN Project Management will oversee the entire project, ensuring that the development remains on track and within budget.

Taylor McCarney Architects will spearhead the design phase, creating detailed specifications to allow the construction to go out to tender.

The development of a new town hall in Ballinrobe has been funded primarily through local fundraising and €4.8 million from the government’s Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF).

The building was first acquired for €305,000 by Ballinrobe Town Hall Committee in 2020 after it became the preferred bidder for the hotel at a public auction.

The Valkenburg has been used for indoor gatherings and meetings on a limited basis in recent times.
