The funeral of a man who died following a fire at an apartment in Ballina is to take place later this week.

Dusan Ivan of Tolan Street, Ballina, and formerly of Prešov, Slovakia, died after a fire broke out at an apartment above Boylesports on Tolan Street Ballina last Thursday.

Another male was taken to hospital for injuries after emergency services attended the incident. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

Mr Ivan had lived in Ballina for many years but worked in security in Westport.

Warm tributes have been paid to Mr Ivan since his passing, including from the Castle Late Night Venue in Westport, who described him as 'the life and soul' of the venue.

Stella O'Malley, whose husband knew Mr Ivan well, described him as ‘a really lovely guy’ who was ‘always smiling’.

He will be reposing at McGowan's Funeral Home, Ballina (F26 V274) on Wednesday evening (July 17) from 7.30pm until 8.30pm. Removal will take place on Thursday morning (July 18) at 11am to St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina arriving for Requiem Mass at 11.30am followed by cremation in Shannon Crematorium.

His funeral Mass will be live-streamed on www.ballinaparish.org
