The Mayo Sailing Club have this week honoured the life and times of one of Clew Bay's great boatman.
The new committee boat will be called the 'Tommy G' in memory of Inishlyre native, Tommy Gibbons, who drowned at the age of 51 in a tragic accident at Rosmoney.

Tommy's family, friends and Mayo Sailing Club members gathered at Rosmoney Pontoon last Sunday afternoon to remember Tommy's contribution to island life off the Mayo coast.
At the time of his death, Tommy was named as a 'shephard of the sea' and even to this day, his contribution to the life of islanders in Clew Bay is fondly remembered. Tommy lived his entire life on Inishlyre where he worked as a postman for much of his life. During the last decade of his life he he worked mostly as a ferryman, farmer and fisherman.
His memory will now live on when the 'Tommy G' is used by the Mayo Sailing Club out on the waters that Tommy loved so well.
