Peggy Mylett (nee Maggie May Chambers) of Glenhest, Newport
Mayo woman, Peggy Mylett (nee Maggie May Chambers) will turn 100 this week.
The native of Glenhest, Newport, will hit the milestone on July 16.
Her daughter, Maureen Mylett Torres, residing in Pacifica, California, wishes to celebrate the birthday, with involvement from Mayo and her mother’s Mayo relatives.
Born in Gornaheltia, Glenhest, Newport, Ms Mylett was the middle of eight siblings.
She immigrated to San Francisco in 1948 where her Crossmolina aunts (Nora, Delia, Catherine Carey) had earlier settled, and married Thomas Mylett, from Cuilmore.
The pair wed in San Francisco and raised four children.
Ms Mylett worked for many years at the United Irish Cultural Center in San Francisco, reluctantly retiring at the age of 85.
Her family has planned a festive birthday party to celebrate her one-hundredth birthday with family, friends, and neighbours.
