The Westport Marathon races were another huge success last weekend, with local man Brendan Conway going back to back in the full Marathon event and Westport native Ellen Moran again winning the women's 10k.

Despite the challenges posed by the windy weather at Westport, this did not deter the nearly 3,000 participants that took part in the second running of the 10k, Half and Full Marathon event, which attracts runners from all over Ireland and beyond who come to challenge themselves in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Participants get to experience breath-taking views of Clew Bay along the rugged coastline with the presence of Croagh Patrick all along the route.

Conway has a finishing a time of 2:48:54 in the Full Marathon. 1st female over the line was Deirdre Martin from Leitrim coming in at a time of 3:09:49.
