The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) and National Concert Hall (NCH) will assemble the leading traditional musicians in the country in honour of the legendary Dublin fiddle player Tommie Potts.

'Drawing from the Well: Tommie Potts' will celebrate the life and legacy of the great Dublin fiddle player.

Fiachna Ó Mongáin from Dumha Thuama is one of the country’s leading accordion players and is set to be part of the action.

Ó Mongáin is a past recipient of the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Young Musician of the Year award and has featured on numerous, including the “Amhráin ó Iorrais” and “Music of Mayo (Ceol Mhaigh Eo)”, as well as “Tunes in the Church” compilation.

The concert will be the fifth in the 'Drawing from the Well' series, and will feature a line-up of Ireland’s best players, singers, and dancers connected with Mr Potts, to celebrate his life and music.

ITMA director, Liam O’Connor, called Mr Potts one of their ‘most significant and unique traditional artists’, saying he ‘understood the tradition, it inspired him’.

“Yet on top of that he added unique, expressive elements that marked him apart. He was a true traditional artist in that sense” he added.

The ITMA is home to the largest and most comprehensive collection of Irish traditional music, song, and dance in the world. They collect, preserve, and offer free universal access to valuable recordings, photographs, manuscripts, and other archival materials.

“The collections of Irish music, song and dance, housed in ITMA serve as a continuing inspiration to our contemporary artists as is the case with the wonderful recordings of Tommie now part of ITMA’s rich musical treasure trove” he added.

The programme will be presented by acclaimed historian, broadcaster, and author, Donal Fallon, and will feature music, song, dance and poetry from artists who have individually connected with Tommie Potts and his extraordinary legacy.

The concert will begin at 8:00pm on March 14, with tickets available on the National Concert Hall’s website.
