Much-loved Castlebar pub Bucko’s Bar to close on Friday

THE owner of a well-known Castlebar pub has announced that it will close on Friday. 

Pat Moran, who ran Bucko’s Bar on Linenhall Street, told The Mayo News that the decision to close was a ‘personal choice’ and not due to high running costs.

The popular premises is to close this Friday (March 15), with the current lease due to expire at Christmas time.

Mr Moran previously hit out at the soaring costs of commercial rates and energy costs in an interview with The Mayo News. 

After Mr Moran took over the pub in 2019, Bucko’s Bar began serving food in 2020 but subsequently stopped due to the spike in energy costs. 

Bucko’s Bar was a popular venue for music and darts and contained an outdoor and upper floor that allowed it to accommodate 80 to 100 people. 

The pub, which was originally owned by Bucko Sheridan, once had a cow kept at the rear of the premises who was marched through the bar every evening to a stable at the back. 

News of its closure comes as the former Bosh premises on Linenhall Street confirmed they are reopening on March 15 as the Barrel and Castle bar and restaurant – the same day Bucko’s Bar is to close.
