The Helm Bar and Restaurant at the Quay in Westport had great pleasure in hosting the 'Athlone A Cappella' Choir recently. Over 30 ladies entertained everyone with their melodic Barbershop style singing with everything from pop to classical to traditional songs. Before Covid, they had won numerous awards and competitions and had competed nationally and internationally. After reforming only in May 2002, they came second in the National Chorus Competition in Killarney last October and they then decided on a team building retreat to Westport this Spring, where everyone at The Helm was delighted to look after them.
Despite it being their weekend away, they kindly agreed to do a concert in The Helm in aid of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice. The Helm were especially delighted to say the event raised €1,500 on the night. The group was welcomed by Cathal Hughes on behalf of the Hospice and Seamus Moran was presented with the donation on the night.
The cheque from the fundraiser was presented to Seamus Moran representing Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
A wonderful evening was had by all, new friendships were made, and all agreed they cannot wait to see them back again next year. Vinny, Shane and Keira from the Helm wish to thank all of their valued friends and customers who so generously gave to this worthy cause on the night. Special thanks to compere Keira Keogh, who did a great job organising all the collection buckets and making sure everyone felt welcome and was well looked after.
