Alan Clarke and Garron Noone with their awards Saturday night
"Mayo for Gossies" posted Alan Clarke on Instagram. "It hasn't really sunk in yet, not even after sleeping over it. There has been little sleep to be honest," says podcast-host Alan Clarke.
No surprise, it is the second Gossie-award for the Castlebar-man already. Last year he won the Newcomer of the year category and this year his podcast "Big News Coming Soon" won the award for Best Podcast. Clarke says he didn't expect to win this year and already felt privileged being nominated.
"You kind of get a bit of imposter syndrome in that room when you're in with all these celebrities and TV presenters and people who are much, much bigger than me."
"My phone hasn't stopped going since Saturday night. But the most surprising thing actually happened when I was walking on the red carpet and TV-presenter Dáthí Ó Sé came over to me to shake my hand, that was a very surreal moment."
"All this support is very encouraging" says Clarke. "I guess the reason why many people resonate with my podcast is that I don't try too hard. The podcast is about talking to real people about real stories. And I think, people engage with that and people can relate to that. Maybe about topics like drug or drink addiction or being an orphan or struggling with being bullied or anxiety or depression. Every episode brought something different and people can relate to and that's why you have such good engagement in such good support."
And the work never stops for Alan Clarke: "I'm recording the next season of the podcast so that the eight more episodes. So they'll be going out in April and May." And obviously there is the Live Show coming up in the TF Royal Castlebar on May 11: Tickets here.
And to make things even more legendary from a Mayo perspective: Clarke wasn't the only Mayo-person enjoying big success at the RDS in Dublin last Saturday: Fellow county-man Garron Noone from Ballina won the award for Newcomer of the year:
