Tributes have been paid to a Geesala native who passed away in Cork over the weekend.
Maeve Barrett (née O'Flaherty) of Millbrook Court, Midleton, Co Cork and formerly of Geesala, Co Mayo died peacefully in the tender care of the staff of Marymount Hospice, Cork on February 25.
Maeve, beloved wife of Séamus (Jack), loving mother of Rachel, Edmond, Kenneth and Matthew, will be "sadly missed by Ben, Gavin, Avril, Ronan, Gráinne, Ailbhe, Paul, Mary, Leo as well as her brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends," according to her RIP.ie death notice. Maeve and her husband Seamus both were teachers in Geesala National School before they moved to Cork some years ago.
Tributes have been paid with one friend saying: "My deepest sympathy to Jack and all Maeve's family. Maeve was such a lovely woman, full of life and joy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. I will always have fond memories of her on the dance floor and enjoying the conversation over a cuppa afterwards. Rest in Peace Maeve."
Another tribute read: "We have many happy memories of being taught and minded by Maeve. A wonderful person, who will be missed and fondly remembered by all."
A third tribute read: "I had the pleasure of being part the first classes Maeve taught, on her move to Geesala NS. She was always a kind and encouraging lady with a great love of art, music and sport. May Maeve's gentle soul rest in peace."
Funeral Arrangements:
Maeve will repose at Hyde’s Funeral Home, Drury’s Avenue, Midleton on this evening, Tuesday, February 27 from 7.30pm to 9pm.
Requiem Mass on Wednesday, February 28 at 2pm in the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Midleton followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Mass will be available to view live on the Parish TV Saorview Channel and on www.midletonparish.ie.
