The Mayo senator welcomed the announcment
Local Fianna Fáil Senator, Lisa Chambers, has welcomed the announcement of an €18 million capital grant scheme for the early learning and childcare sector.
The Mayo senator encouraged eligible childcare services based in the county to apply for the new grant.
The new grant comes as part of the wider Building Blocks Capacity scheme for early learning and childcare under the revised National Development Plan 2021-2030 (NDP).
Senator Chambers said the new capital will ‘reconfigure or internally renovate’ existing services to increase ‘capacity in the 1-3 year old age range for full day or part-time care’.
The former Mayo TD acknowledged the difficulty in accessing childcare, and said she hopes the grant provides ‘an immediate increase’ in affordable childcare, as well as providing ‘support for services’ to expand capacity ‘through smaller-scale renovations and upgrades’.
“The grant will be open to both private and community-based services in Mayo, so I strongly encourage any that meet the Department's criteria to apply” she concluded.
