Medical evacuation from Norwegian fishing vessel off takes place off Erris Head

A medical evacuation of an individual aboard a Norwegian fishing has taken place 160 miles west of Erris Head.

The Malin Head Coast Guard Coordination Centre, in conjunction with colleagues in the UK Coastguard and the Norwegian Coast Guard, coordinated the medical evacuation of a seriously ill casualty the vessel yesterday (Monday).

The evacuation was conducted by Dublin based Coast Guard Helicopter R116, which was shadowed by the Shannon-based Coast Guard Helicopter R115 as a secondary support asset.

The casualty was winched onboard R116 at 12.50pm and was transported to University Hospital Galway where they were transferred into the care of the HSE.
