The opening of Hidden Hearing Castlebar on World Hearing Day, will mark the launch of one of Ireland’s largest dedicated audiology providers

The new flagship Hidden Hearing clinic in the west of Ireland will officially open in Castlebar on Friday, March 1.

The opening of the clinic, which is located on Hopkins Road in the town, reflects World Hearing Day, which is celebrated globally on March 3.

With additional staff, more accessible facilities, and the latest cutting-edge technology, the new Castlebar clinic is one of the largest dedicated audiology service providers in the country.

Castlebar-based Fine Gael councillor Donna Sheridan, ‘welcomes the business to the town’ and said it is ‘great to see a building like this, in a busy area, being used’.

Hidden Hearing is Ireland's leading provider of hearing aids with a national network of 85 hearing clinics nationwide.

Heart health problems, dementia, diabetes, and other illnesses have been linked to untreated hearing loss, by medical experts.

Medical research by neuroscientists is building the case that hearing loss is a modifiable risk factor for dementia, and that wearing hearing aids, if needed, mitigates risk of impaired cognitive functioning.

Learn, Listen, Link is the theme of expert training being undertaken by over 170 staff at Hidden Hearing clinics, in a revolutionary new programme to better understand and care for clients with dementia.

The training, which is in conjunction with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI), includes staged clinic visits by The ASI team, and by people with dementia, to determine the best care protocols within a hearing healthcare setting.

The Learn, Listen, Link training, which is part of the HSE Dementia Understand Together campaign, will also build knowledge around services available to this patient group, and will help identify any need to alter hearing test protocols, communication strategies or rehabilitation applications, going forward.

According to Dr Sabina Brennan who will attend the clinic's opening, treatment, including hearing devices, have been shown to protect against the progression of these diseases, particularly in older adults.

Other guests and speakers include Mayo sportsperson Keith Higgins, local Mayo audiologist Karen McComiskey, and Hidden Hearing’s Sales Director, Duncan Graham.

The opening will take place March 1, from 11am-1pm at the new clinic in Castlebar.
