Excitement is building for the opening of a new post office in Bonniconlon this Monday, January 15.
The opening of the post office was confirmed by Fianna Fail councillor Annie Mae Reape. The local post office was closed briefly with customers having to travel to Ballina for the services, but the new post office in Bonniconlon, located in the same premises as a shop in the village, will end the commute for members of the community.
Councillor Reape spoke about the fantastic news for Bonniconlon stating "Rural post offices are a vital part of all local areas in the country and now I am asking the general public to use the post office facilities more often.
"This is a community facility. For some people living alone this could be the only time they meet anyone during the week collectin their pensions and coming into the post office for a chat."
