Labour to announce high profile candidate

Speculation is rife in Mayo as to who the Labour Party are going to name as their Mayo candidate for the next General Election. It is believed that Labour will announce their candidate later today.
Party insiders have stated that the candidate will be ‘high profile’ and the guessing game has begun.
Among the names mentioned are former Independent TD Dr Jerry Cowley and current Independent Mayor of Castlebar, Michael Kilcoyne.
Kilcoyne, however, has ruled out a return to the party who he once represented. Were Cowley to be the name going forward, it would represent a remarkable comeback into the political arena after he lost his DΡil seat in 2007.
