Haiti documentary wins coveted prize at Chicago Festival; HSE West industrial action affects patient communication; Knock Airport to improve accessibility
Haiti documentary featuring Gena Heraty wins top award
An RTÉ television documentary featuring Westport Haiti aid worker, Gena Heraty has won a top award at the 46th Chicago International Film Festival. ‘A Hundred Dead People in My Truck’ tells the story of Heraty and another Irish worker, and an American medical missionary priest, who have spent the last fifteen years battling poverty, disease and hunger in Haiti. The award will receive a Gold Plaque for best Social/Political Documentary at the 2010 Hugo Television Awards in Chicago this Thursday, April 15.
Industrial action by HSE staff impacts on customer service
HSE staff have this morning being partaking in industrial action and advised patients and clients that they may experience difficulty in making contact with the HSE services due to the action. The IMPACT union protest took place in the HSE West area from 9am until 1pm today, but the union agreed to grant derogations for switchboards and for all direct line emergency services such as Emergency Departments. The HSE have said they will continue to monitor the situation closely and will take all necessary steps to minimise the impact on patients.
€495,000 funding granted to Ireland West Airport Knock
Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, who will be in Mayo on Friday, has approved grant aid of €495,000 for Ireland West Airport Knock towards the repair and upgrade of its main Passenger Apron and Taxiway. The sum will represent 90 per cent of the cost of the project.
