Locals find missing man in Swinford boghole; Heavy rain leads to landslide on Mayo/Galway border; Discount supermarket gets planning in Westport
Swinford man’s body found in boghole near Swinford
A post mortem is to be carried out this afternoon on the body of man who was found dead in a boghole near Swinford on Monday. The man, who is in his 70s, had been missing for a number of days. His body was found by locals who had been out searching for the man, who lived in Swinford town. It is believed that the man owned land in the area where his body was found. His name has not yet been released.
Heavy rain caused landslide on Delphi to Leenane road
Exceptionally heavy rain on the Mayo/Galway border is believed to have caused a landslide on the Delphi to Leenane road yesterday evening. The landslide caused the road to be closed for several hours but council workers managed to clear the road way late last night and it reopened. No major damage was caused to the property or lands in the area.
Permission granted for Lidl supermarket on controversial Westport sight
Planning permission has been granted in Westport for a new discount supermarket. LIDL have been given the go ahead to construct the supermarket on the site of the Northern Feather factory in the Demense area of the town. However, the grant of permission is likely to be appealed to An Bord PleanΡla as a number of residents of the area are concerned that the development will cause traffic chaos due to its location close to the busy Newport Road.
