The seventh and final count of the night in the Galway West constituency has failed to elect any candidate.
Poll topper Eamon O’Cuiv (FF) must wait for counting to resume at 9am to see if the eighth count will take him over the line.
The seventh count saw the distribution of Green Party candidate Seamus Sheridan’s 1,813 transfers. O’Cuiv now waits for 633 to reach the quota of 10,712 to take the first seat in the redrawn constituency.
After this prolonged uncertainty, Independent Noel Grealish looks good to take the second seat with 8,020.
Fine Gael’s Sean Kyne, on 6,444, is next in the running for a seat in the fiver seater.
Sinn Fein’s Trevor O’Clochartaigh on 6,261 will fancy his chances for the third seat, while Independent Catherine Connolly got a welcomed boost of 368 transfers to take her to 5,818.
Naughton jumped ahead of fellow FG candidate John O’Mahony, with 133 transfers taking her to 5,097. O’Mahony stands at 4,965.
Social Democrat Niall O’Tuathaill received an impressive 494 transfers to take him to 4,344, while Nolan (Lab) took 244 transfers and now ranks in with 3,624.
Fianna Fail’s John Connolly is at 4,203 and colleague Mary Hoade is at the bottom on 2,644.
Counting will resume at 9am at the count centre in NUI Galway, where Independent Mike Cubbard’s 2,533 will be distributed.
