The BB buzz

Bet you’ve heard of BB creams and haven’t had a clue what all the fuss is about. They’ve become a real beauty buzz word recently – and with good reason.
BB stands for Blemish Balm and this all-singing, all-dancing cream was originally invented in Germany to heal scarring post surgery. Soon, it caught on in Asia, where it became the must-have face cream. The trend became so big that make-up houses in Japan and Hong Kong started making it.
Well, the trend has continued to spread, and now it’s the latest craze in the well-populated skincare marketplace.
BB can act as a tinted moisturiser, a light foundation AND a primer. It also provides a high SPF. Pretty much the devil and all is promised. I’m not crazy about the name, though, as it suggests that it’s just for blemishes, when in fact it’s a real multi-tasker.
So, if you want to add a do-it-all product to your make up routine, this might well be the one to try. Make sure you chat to the salesperson about your skin type before you buy, though. There are specific creams for each skin type, rather like your regular moisturiser, so you want to make sure you describe your particular type.
Popular BB creams include Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector (€14.99), Clinique Age Defence BB Cream SPF 30 (€32), Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream (€11.05), No 7 Beautiful Skin BB Cream (€15.95) and Lancôme Renergie Eclat Multi Lift Tinted Cream (€45.50).
