A gentle cosmetic technique, microdermabrasion offers three big benefits – anti-ageing, skin rejuvenation and acne repair
Reveal your skin-deep beauty with microdermabrasion
Skin Specialist Bernie Fahy
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic technique for skin of all ages, young and old. This gentle procedure, which has become hugely popular worldwide, offers three big benefits – anti-ageing, skin rejuvenation and acne repair. Microdermabrasion stimulates sub-dermal activity while promoting new collagen growth. The micro-peeling procedure uses a combination of tiny crystals and vacuum to remove skin impurities. However, this non-invasive treatment is much kinder than chemicals peels, which use acids, or laser peels, which are abrasive. Microdermabrasion is a gift that keeps on giving too – not only will you notice visible results from the first treatment, you’ll see ongoing improvements over time. Clients with older skin will notice an improvement in the appearance fine lines and wrinkles, crows feet and pigmentation. Large pores and blemishes will be minimised, and skin texture and tone will be evened out. For younger, acne-prone skin, early intervention with microdermabrasion prevents bacteria from taking control when the skin is trying to deal with fluctuating hormones. The treatment is suitable for males and females from 16 years of age. It can be used to treat all skin types depending on the degree of acne and scarring present. If the skin is very congested and full of papules, I tend to recommend a skin tonic to cleanse the body and decongest the system. This will treat the body internally before starting microdermabrasion. I find this procedure ideal for teenagers as it combats acne before it spreads further and causes long-term scarring.
