Maggie Gibbons on a different kind of massage at the The Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotel Resort.
Lymphatic drainage detoxifies and heals.
Lymphatic therapy at Spa Sula
Maggie Gibbons
I went to The Spa Sula at The Westport Plaza Castlecourt recently for a Lymphatic Drainage Massage. The therapeutic experience is one of top quality, total luxury.
Thermal luxury I was advised to come at least an hour earlier than my appointment so that I could benefit from the Thermal Suite beforehand. This Suite is designed with relaxation and luxury in mind. Beautifully fitted with mosaic tiles, it has numerous wet and dry cabins to luxuriate in while you’re waiting for your massage. There’s a foot spa, rock sauna, salt grotto, and steam room to name just a few. I particularly loved the salt grotto which fills with a mist containing mineral salts. There was a wonderful mint aroma in the air; apparently it’s hugely beneficial to people with respiratory problems like asthma. The Outdoor Rock Pool is heated (great!) and there are massage jets constantly working on those tired aching muscles. After that, it’s on to the garden conservatory to further relax before being collected by Manuella, my therapist. The Thermal Suite at Spa Sula
Gentle If you’ve never had Lymphatic Drainage Massage you may wonder if it’s some complicated procedure – not a bit of it! It’s the gentlest type of massage therapy and is used to detoxify and drain excess fluids from the body. It works to strengthen the immune system, helping to unlock the body’s natural healing ability. It also aids circulation. The technique can be used on the face to help unblock sinuses and get rid of puffiness around the eyes. It can also reduce swollen ankles and legs – a god-send to anyone who finds themselves on their feet a lot. It is also supposed to be great for anyone who is stressed out, or who suffers from insomnia.
Different Lymphatic Drainage Massage is applied to bare skin and no oils are used. It is quite different to other massage in that no long strokes are used; it felt more like a gentle pressing on the neck, face and legs. After the treatment, I was ushered into the beautiful relaxation room, which is fitted with comfy beds to lie on while you read, or indulge in any of the herbal teas juices available. You can stay here for as long as you choose – and real treat before you (reluctantly) head back out into reality! There are all kinds of pampering packages available at Spa Sula, with monthly special offers available. The Lymphatic Drainage is on offer for €60 right now, and when you consider that this also includes your Thermal Suite and Relaxation room, it’s fantastic value. Sheer heaven and a lovely treat to yourself or someone you think deserves it.
Spa Sula is located in The Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotel Resport, Castlebar Street, Westport. For more information, visit www.spasula.ie.
